Jack London State Historic Park

"I would rather be ashes than dust. I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time."

- Jack London

Today, I enjoyed the incredible beauty of Jack London State Historic Park.  As always, everything in the Sonoma Valley is beautiful, but this felt heavenly.  It was so beautiful, and the weather was almost 70 degrees, so a lovely day to talk a walk.  I met a friend who lives in the area, and she showed me around the park.  We stayed on the less hilly trails to protect her knees, but we did take on a big hill leading up to a "lake".    The light was beautiful and the land included a mix of old stone farm buildings, vineyards, redwoods and oaks.

It is a State Park and has a fee of $8 to park there, unless you have an annual pass. There is lots of information to be had on their website, but they have docent-lead tours and lots of events there as well.  I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation and the immense natural beauty of this place.  I will definitely be returning to take a longer hike and spend the day here!  I will leave you with a few photos:
